About

Nobody is an
AI expert yet.

Especially the ones who say they are. So instead of selling you a title, here's the honest story of how I got here, and why I'm the guy you actually want in your corner.

Andrew Jernigan, founder of Peninsulas AI, outdoors holding his child by a river
AI can't replace people. But it can replace people who don't use AI. My boss, right about the time everything changed

That line stuck, and the timing is why. ChatGPT went mainstream the same month my first child was born. So there I was. Brand new dad. More responsibility on my shoulders than I'd ever carried in my life. And my boss is casually telling me the ground is shifting under everybody's feet.

My reaction was simple. You're not replacing me.

So I dug in. Every single day, a little deeper. Prompts, outcomes, tweaking the inputs until the thing did exactly what I wanted it to. Before long I was head and shoulders past the people around me. Not because I'm smarter than anybody. Because I flat refused to be the guy who got left behind.

Where I come from

Turns out, teaching was always the job

Here's the part that matters for you. I come from operations, and these days I work in Learning and Development for a nationwide company. Ops is where I learned to see exactly how a business runs. Where the time leaks, what's held together with duct tape, which step nobody actually needs. L&D is where I learned to take all that and make it dead simple for the next person to understand.

That's the whole skill, and it's still exactly what I do. See how the work really happens, then hand people a simpler way to do it. AI just turned out to be the most powerful tool I've ever had to do it with.

I genuinely believe AI is the biggest leap for compounding and democratizing knowledge since the printing press, and we are barely at the start of it. Most owners don't need a lecture. They need someone to show them the door and hand them the key. That's the whole job. That's me.

A little honesty

What I'm not

You'll meet plenty of people calling themselves AI experts right now. Be a little careful with that.

The truth is there are no real AI experts. It's too new. And if there were, they sure aren't the type to walk into an HVAC shop and actually help.

What I am is a half step ahead, genuinely obsessed with this stuff, and pointed straight at your business instead of some lab. That's worth more than a title that doesn't exist yet anyway.
